The clinic is led by Valerie Storm, a Chartered Physiotherapist (HCPC registered, MCSP). Treatment is grounded in thorough clinical assessment, sound reasoning, and a clear focus on functional outcomes. Referral Criteria

The Storm Clinic accepts private referrals for adult patients requiring physiotherapy assessment and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal and functional movement presentations.

Indications for Referral

Referral is appropriate for patients presenting with:

  • Acute, sub-acute or persistent musculoskeletal pain

  • Cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine-related pain and dysfunction

  • Peripheral joint pain and impairment (including shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and foot)

  • Soft tissue injury and tendinopathy

  • Post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation (where physiotherapy is indicated)

  • Recurrent injury patterns and movement dysfunction

  • Reduced mobility, strength and functional capacity impacting daily activity

  • Sports and activity-related injuries requiring structured rehabilitation

  • Work-related musculoskeletal conditions requiring functional restoration

Physiotherapy Management

Patients referred to The Storm Clinic may be assessed and managed through a physiotherapy-led pathway which may include:

  • Detailed subjective and objective clinical assessment

  • Manual therapy and soft tissue techniques where clinically indicated

  • Rehabilitation exercise prescription and progression

  • Functional movement re-education and graded return to activity

  • Education and self-management strategies

  • Adjunct modalities (e.g. dry needling/acupuncture, shockwave therapy, laser therapy, electrical stimulation, kinesiotaping) where appropriate

Exclusion Criteria / Medical Review Required

Patients should be referred for urgent medical assessment prior to physiotherapy in the presence of suspected red flag pathology, including (but not limited to):

  • Suspected fracture or significant acute trauma

  • Progressive neurological deficit, widespread paraesthesia, or acute motor weakness

  • Suspected cauda equina syndrome (including saddle anaesthesia, bowel/bladder disturbance)

  • Suspected infection, malignancy, inflammatory disease flare, or systemic illness

  • Unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats, or unremitting night pain

  • Suspected deep vein thrombosis or vascular compromise

  • Any presentation requiring urgent imaging, investigation or medical intervention
